Neighbour’s angry note demands noisy children are kept inside so they can sleep
A disgruntled neighbour has written a letter asking for children to be kept indoors until at least 9am, after being woken up by their “loud voices” early in the morning
Nobody likes being woken up hours before they’re ready to roll out of bed, and one neighbour has become so fed up with having their lie-ins cut short that they’ve taken matters into their own hands.
The resident from a suburb in Sydney, Australia, penned a note to their neighbour explaining how “noisy” their children can be when they play in the garden, as they said the kids often wake them up early in the morning.
And the disgruntled person is even requesting their neighbour keep their children indoors until 9am to ensure they can get some much-needed shut eye.
The note reads: “Congratulations on your renovations. Your neighbours have endured many months of construction noise and now we’re being disturbed by your kids in the backyard early in the morning.
“We wish to request that you keep your young kids indoors until 9am.
“There have been many occasions in recent times when your kids are out in the backyard early in the morning and they have been very loud and noisy. They are disturbing the peace in the neighbourhood and waking people up.
“Sometimes they are out very early around 7:30am and unfortunately they have very loud voices. Your son in particular is always screaming at the top of his voice.
“Kids will be kids but I’m simply asking if they can go out later so your neighbours are not awoken too early in the morning.
“Thank you for your co-operation and appreciate your kind understanding.”
The neighbour’s letter was shared on a local Facebook page, and opinion was divided among other members.
One person agreed with the angry neighbour, writing: “I think parents of young children forget what it’s like to have a healthy and sufficient sleep cycle so they decide that everyone else should suffer with them.”
But many others believed they were being “ridiculous” with their request.
Another wrote: “What a joke, construction starts at 7am where I live.”
While a third added: “Seriously! We are in lockdown. My neighbours have four boys and they are out very early and I feel nothing but compassion for them … we all need to show a little patience.”
